“Making Meaning of the Election: A Panel Discussion” with C-SPAN’s Sam Feist
The Institute for Education will hold a fireside chat, “Making Meaning of the Election – A Panel Discussion,” to be moderated by Sam Feist, CEO of C-SPAN. Coach Kathy Kemper and Ambassador Lui Tuck Yew will cohost the salon at the Embassy of Singapore. Panelists include Philip Klein of National Review Online, Jasmine Wright of NOTUS, and Margaret Talev of Axios. The evening will be an intellectual spectacle crossing disciplines and generations to discuss our elections, leaders, and technology. By invitation only.

- Moderator: Sam Feist is the CEO of C-SPAN and has an extensive background in political journalism. Before joining C-SPAN, he served as CNN’s Washington bureau chief and senior vice president, where he managed CNN’s largest newsgathering operation, Washington-based programming, and the coordination of major political events, such as election nights, conventions, inaugurations, and debates. In 2023, Feist became the Executive in Charge of CNN en Español. He also played a key role in CNN’s internal fact-checking and Special Events unit and was responsible for projecting election winners on Election Night. Feist began his career with CNN as the founding executive producer of *The Situation Room* and later produced other notable political programs. He has produced interviews with influential leaders including Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Margaret Thatcher. His work has earned him four Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award for campaign coverage. Feist holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from Georgetown University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, The Washington Economic Club, and the Bar of the District of Columbia and serves on several prominent media and political boards.
- Philip Klein is editor of National Review Online. Klein previously worked as the executive editor of the Washington Examiner, as a Washington correspondent for The American Spectator, and as a financial reporter for Reuters. Philip Klein | National Review
- Margaret Talev is the Director of Syracuse University’s Institute for Democracy, Journalism & Citizenship in Washington, DC, and a senior contributor at Axios. She appears regularly on CNN, Sirius XM, NPR, BBC News, and other outlets. She has covered or directed coverage of the White House, U.S. elections and Congress. Margaret Talev – Axios
- Jasmine Wright is currently Politics reporter at NOTUS. She was most recently a CNN reporter, covering the White House, working as an embed on the 2020 campaign covering then-Senator Kamala Harris, and covering the 2018 midterms. She was previously a reporter-producer at PBS NewsHour, covering politics, the Trump administration, and general affairs. She’s a National Association of Black Journalists member and a proud Chicagoan. She graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in broadcast journalism.
