“Civility — The Politics of Common Ground” Initiative

As part of the effort, Washington insider Coach Kathy Kemper, who founded the institute more than a decade ago, recently brought together an array of Washingtonians to the home of Belgian Ambassador Dominique Struye de Swielande for a Civility Award Dinner to honor Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty for their work in reaching out across party lines.

According to the Institute, “The goal is to echo the Reagan-O’Neill understanding that after a day’s work, political adversaries should not be enemies. By engaging in dialogue and building relationships, both parties are likely to find common ground.”
