“This inaugural award was given in memory of James Valentine, a long-time supporter of CS@SC who passed away this past Spring. Jim’s wife, Coach Kathy Kemper, is the Founder and CEO of the Institute for Education and Founding Donor of the CS@SC Camps.”

“Thank you Peter H. for the nomination! Penny loved your classes! Our gratitude to co-directors Nayeon K and Victor K. for overseeing the program. Also, thanks to the amazing panel who shared their passion and thoughts about K12 Computer Science education during the closing ceremonies.”

“Panel included:

Megan Smith, Former Chief Technology of the United States and Assistance to the President (serving under President Obama) and CEO and founder of @shift7;

Coach Kathy Kemper, Founder and CEO of the Institute for Education and Founding Donor of the CS@SC Camps;

Derek Richardson, Professional NBA Referee and founder of Why Can’t We Make a Difference; and

Prof. Jeffrey Miller, Director of the CS@SC Camps and Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology Practice at the University of Southern California.”

“CS@SC isn’t just a Summer Program. USC offers classes (Scratch Jr., Scratch, Java, Python, Cyber Security, and Web Development) with in-person and remote options throughout the year. =) Check them out at https://summercap.usc.edu for more information. Highly recommended!”
